As per updated figures of the major States, the Potato in cold storage this year is around 214.25 Lakh Tonne, against 238.50 Lakh Tonne in 2018-19 (earlier reported was 244.12 Lakh Tonne). This is due to updation of MP (MP reported 11.13 against earlier 8 Lakh Tonne)
As per updation this month, the Potato production for 2019-20 is 508.57 Lakh Tonne [reduced from earlier reported (2nd Advance Estimates) 513 Lakh Tonne against 501.90 Lakh Tonne last year.
This is due to reduction in estimates of Bihar from earlier reported 81.53 Lakh Tonne to 77.10Lakh Tonne after their latest reassessment.
Uttar Pradesh has reassessed and re-confirmed that their production is around 140 Lakh Tonne. They have also confirmed that dump Potato available with farmers have exhausted by now.
The gap in Rabi Potato Storages between this year to last year is now therefore 24 Lakh Tonne (not 33 Lakh Tonne reported earlier).
Sowing of Kharif Potato is going on in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamilnadu and Maharashtra and just started in Karnataka and Tamilnadu.
