Bactericides are highly used to control bacterial disease by specifically inhibiting or killing the bacterial causing the disease. They can be mixed with water, and hence easily applied through foliar spray, soil treatment. The ease in application mode has made these bactericides more convenient to use for the farmers. Plant diseases caused by bacteria are very difficult to control, especially when a bacteria like CLas resides in the phloem of the plant vascular system, and few bactericides are available to treat bacterial diseases. Although copper has been used in agriculture for several centuries as a foliar treatment to protect plants from fungal and bacterial diseases, when used systemically at bactericidal levels, copper is toxic thus, copper has not been demonstrated to be an effective treatment for HLB. A type of bactericides that has been found to provide a level of control of HLB and many other bacterial diseases is antibiotics.

Rise in need for food security for the growing population, and increase in crop loss owing to nutrient deficiency, along with change in farming practices (from traditional to conventional), have been of importance to the growth of the global Bactericide Market in agriculture. Bactericides are used for high-quality crop yield for the increasing population and its growing food demand. Hence, bactericides will be viewed as a business opportunity in the next six years. As a result, many multinational players have entered into the production of various types of bactericides, which can be used for crops.
